THE CATCHER IN THE RYE
Salinger. J.D. The Catcher In The Rye. Boston, MA. Little, Brown and Company, Inc. 1945.
Annotation: Angst riddled Holden Caufield reflects on his life and journey through prep schools in Modern America while looking for his own identity.
Nomination: This is not the first time I have read this book and it won't be the last. J.D. Salinger's classic The Catcher In The Rye is perhaps THE book at the top of the YA Genre. Salinger describes teenage angst, anger, confusion, isolationism, and discovery better than anybody. The writing has a stream-of-conciousness element that is excellent. I find myself laughing when Holden mocks another or getting upset when someone burns him. I love this book. I already made my final Printz nomination but this book should be included as well.
