HOLE IN MY LIFE
Gantos, Jack. Hole in My Life. Jack Gantos. 2002.

ANNOTATION: Jack Gantos, a young writer with high hopes, helped crew a ship full of drugs for ten thousand dollars. His story takes him from the Virgin Islands to New York City and eventually to prison.

NOMINATION:
I am nominating Hole in My Life for the Mock-Printz award! Jack Gantos has written an incredibly deep, funny, sad, and honest memoir for teens and adults to enjoy. His use of language and style is remarkable and makes this a page-turner. Throughout the book there is not a trace of "woe-is-me" or self pity for the situation that he created for himself. He is self-depricating and refreshingly honest about his description of himself as well as the other players in his story. Hole in My Life reads like a novel unfolding in real-time leaving you with no desire to put it down. This is very enjoyable reading for those who can appreciate honesty and humility from a self-made man. I loved it!
